1. How long have you (or your spouse) been in the military and what branch are you in?
I was in for 6 years and my husband has been in for 11 years. We were/are both Navy. I was in the fleet side and on the Eisenhower cvn69 and he is at the Dam Neck base.
2. How many children do you have? (Names and Ages)
We have three children: Connor, 6 yo , Alyne 5 yo, Elizabeth 20 mo.
3. What fun things do you like to do with your kiddo(s)?
We like to go to the park with our school mom friends and have playdates with close friends. Our kids are raised in a judgement free zone.
4. What is the hardest part about being a military mom?
The hardest part would be your spouse having to deploy and miss out on the children’s childhood. Those moments add up over time. I like to take photos of everything so they don’t miss anything. Even for the mom’s having to leave their children behind would be hard to handle. My Mom did it and I don’t know how. I would be worried constantly, but she had my Nana there for the first 10 yrs to help.
5. What is your favorite part about being a mom?
My favorite part about being a mom is the unconditional love I have for them and that they have for me. (At least for right now, I’m sure they will think otherwise whenever they are teenagers.)
6. What advice could you give to other military moms about parenting while in the service?
Take the children’s moods lightly. They express their emotions differently than us since they might not understand how to tell us how they feel.
Thank you Shannon, and thank you to your husband, James, for his service! And thank you to Virginia Beach Bounce House for providing tickets for this awesome military family!
