This year was the first holiday season my son was old enough to “get” it and participate. We had such a blast watching Frosty the Snowman, opening gifts, and enjoying each others company!
Here in Virginia Beach, we’ve had a pretty balmy winter, so to get into the cold state of mind we read the book Snowmen at Night, which you can grab here from Amazon. The book was awesome, and it mentions the Snowmen drinking iced cocoa, which got me thinking about making some for ourselves!
So, we grabbed some cocoa mix, (with marshmallows, of course!) and started experimenting with making our own iced cocoa! You can use either warm milk or water to make it, and we decided to go with water. Milk makes it creamier, and water makes it healthier, if you can call it that? Plus, the Keurig machine makes it easy, just push a button!
Step one: Pour powder mix into mug
Step two: Add about 6 ounces of hot water and stir
Pretty simple! After that we added a couple ice cubes, the first few melted, and we added another handful. We started with just a couple at a time to cool it down, we didn’t want it to get too watery.
Not only did we get to enjoy the same treat that Snowmen do, but it also cooled it down quickly enough that my toddler could enjoy some cocoa out of his sippy cup right away. We grabbed some popcorn and our movie and had an awesome night!
FYI: so you avoid our mistake…Don’t add the ice cubes in before the hot water, they will immediately melt, leaving you with very watered-down cocoa!
My fellow mom explorers are also posting about Snowmen at Night this week as well! I have the privilege of working with some very creative and amazing mom bloggers!
