Maggie had her first dentist appointment and it went wonderfully! William and I go to Greenbrier Dental in Chesapeake and at my last visit my dental hygienist asked me if I had brought Maggie to their Dental Pediatric Office yet. I thought, “Why?! She has like 4 teeth.” Apparently though, as soon as your child starts getting teeth you are supposed to take them to the dentist.
Who knew?! I made an appointment that day.
And off we went to the dentist and we had a great experience!
First we walked into the waiting room and they had some fun toys for the kids and a TV with a cartoon on.
While I filled out paperwork, Maggie played.
We were actually too early for our appointment because – EEK – I wrote down the wrong time, but they took us anyways. How nice was that?! So we went back with our very sweet dental hygienist, Sonya (ask for her if you go there- she’s AWESOME!) who walked us through everything to expect, asked us questions about Maggie’s health and teeth, and interacted wonderfully with Maggie. She was a gem! We absolutely loved her!!
While we were chatting, she gave Maggie this cute stuffed Dinosaur and a giant toothbrush so Maggie could brush his teeth. That was a big hit!
Then the dentist came over to check out Maggie’s teeth. This was the dreaded moment. Seriously, I prayed that she would cooperate because I knew a big fight was coming. They put a mat in between me and the dentist (on our laps) and I held her legs and Sonya held her arms while the doctor checked out those adorable little teethers.
Maggie screamed. A lot. However, it wasn’t as bad as I thought because the dentist and the dental hygienist were completely calm. That was so great because it helped keep me calm. I know they are used to kids throwing fits, so they are professionals when it comes to screaming children. Plus he finished really quickly. So we didn’t have to hold Maggie down for very long.
Maggie has always been very independent, so she has become an expert at brushing her own teeth. And it is paying off, because she got an excellent report! AND she got to pick a prize from the treasure chest….which, of course, was her favorite part!
I know what you are thinking- she looks completely thrilled, right? That’s Maggie. We never get much of a smile or expression out of her.
