This week for the Mom Explores Book Club we read the story Henry’s Awful Mistake, which you can find here.
My son absolutely loved this story! He asked that we read it three times in a row, and probably would have wanted to continue if I hadn’t told him we were going to make a snack!
We decided to make a twist on a classic snack, ants on a log. Remember when you spread peanut butter on a celery stick and added raisins as a kid? In the story, an ant climbs up a water pipe, and when Henry tries to smash the ant with a hammer, he accidentally creates a huge hole in the pipe. This causes a flood in his house! This scenario was our inspiration to create Ants on a Water Pipe.
- Pretzel Rods
- Cream Cheese
- Blue food coloring
- Craisins (or raisins!)
I used a quarter of a bar of original cream cheese and added 4 drops of blue food coloring.
Then, just stir!
Smear the “water” on to the “water pipe”…
Add “ants”! (We used craisins, because we had some handy, by raisins would work just as well!)
And enjoy! We sure did!
Don’t forget to keep up with our bi-weekly book club. Feel free to follow along and read with us! Please let us know if you try any of our activities or recipes and what you think! Here is the main page where you can link up with other Mom Explorers:
